  14. Team presentation Study area Modeling Conclusion Var river catchment The Var catchment has an area of about 2822 km2 and elevation from 3000 m in the mountains to 0 m at the mouth to the Mediterranean Sea. The length of the river is about 125 km.

  15. Team presentation Study area Modelling Conclusion Var river catchment Tinnee~750 km2 Tinnee Upper Var~1100 km2 Vesubie Upper Var Upper Var Vesubie~400 km2 Esteron Esteron~450 km2 Lower Var Lower Var~160km2

  16. Team presentation Study area Modelling Conclusion GIS modeling WeuseArcGISto accomplishthefollowing objectives: - Obtain a georeferenced topography of the catchment - Watershed analysis, such as flow direction, flow accumulation, stream delineation and identification of subcatchments - Slope calculations - Land use analysis

  17. Team presentation Study area Modelling Conclusion GIS modeling • Initial datahttp://www.hydroeurope.org/page1601.html • –topo075.txt • –topo300.txt • –landuse_legend.txt • - landuse.asc

  18. Team presentation Study area Modelling Conclusion MIKE SHE • Setting up a simple model for rainfall-runoff modeling on the Var catchment • The model will only incorporate the overland flow part of the water cycle • At first, only a small part of the river network was be included (next to the outlet – in order to record the discharge generated by the model) (Part I) • Then, the whole river network will be included (Part II)

  19. Team presentation Study area Modelling Conclusion MIKE SHE

  20. Team presentation Study area Modelling Conclusion 1D Modeling – HecRas and Mike 11 • Hydraulic modeling of lower Var river and simulation for the flood of November 1994 • Calibrate ISIS model for the Var low valley in respect to measured water levels at weirs.

  21. Team presentation Study area Modelling Conclusion 2D Modeling Mike 21 • Check validity of results using measured water levels at weirs and comparison of hydrographs at Napoleon II bridge • Checking the influence of the tidal effect along the river and estimate how far the influence reaches.
