  1. Microbiologist By Kaitlyn Huber Hour:5 10-22-13 Career Tech

  2. Introduction Where observation is concerned, chance favors only the prepared mind. –Louis Pasteur. What got me interested in this career was actually my 7th grade science class when we got involved in using a microscope. Also when I was doing my science fair project that year I used Petri dishes to find out which cleaner works the best and I loved doing it. In Microbiology I will be studying the growth, development, and other characteristics of microscopic organisms such as bacteria, algae, and fungi.

  3. Work of Nature • Plan and conduct complex research projects, such as developing new drugs to combat infectious diseases. • Identify and classify microorganisms found in specimens collected from humans, water, food, and other sources. • Monitor the effect of microorganisms on plants, animals, and other microorganisms and on the environment. • Isolate and maintain cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms for future study. • Supervise the work of biological technicians and other workers and evaluate the accuracy of their results. • Present research findings to scientists, non-scientist executives, engineers, other colleagues, and the public.

  4. Working Conditions The working conditions are: • Indoor • Mental • It is indoor and mental because you can not do this kind of research outside without messing it up and it is mental because you mainly do research. • Regular hours • The environment there is they work in laboratories and offices, where they conduct scientific experiments and analyze the results.

  5. Training, Qualifications, and Advancement • Microbiologists need at least a bachelor’s degree in microbiology. • I am planning to go to Michigan State or Wayne to go into this career. • I will take chemistry and advanced chemistry and other classes that are offered to prepare for this career.

  6. Job Outlook/Employment • Employment Rate is 13% • I do not think this field is competitive. • I do not know where I would like to find this job. • I do not know where I want to live.

  7. Earnings • The median annual wage of microbiologists was $65,920. • My lifestyle goals are to have a stable job a house car and a family. • This does fit my goal you me this is a lot of money it is about average but it is higher than most jobs. • The first thing I will purchase with these earnings is a house and a car probably or food.

  8. Related Occupation • Biochemists and Biophysicists is my back up career • Their responsibilities are to study the chemical and physical principles of living things and of biological processes such as cell development, growth, and heredity. • Work conditions are in laboratories. Most work full time. • The training is they need a Ph.D. to work in independent research and development. Most Ph.D. holders begin their careers in a temporary postdoctoral research position that typically lasts 2 to 3 years. Bachelor’s and master’s degree holders qualify for some entry-level positions in biochemistry and biophysics • The outlook is projected to increase by 31 percent from 2010 to 2020. • Earnings are median annual wage of biochemists and biophysicists was $79,390 • Why I choose this career is because it is very close to what you do it Microbiology.

  9. Summary • My feeling are that I would really like to be a microbiologist. It sound like a really cool and fun career. The one thing that I am looking forward to is see the micro organisms and finding cures for dieses. The one thing I am not looking forward to is showing and presenting my work t people. Event though there is a lot of work until then I am looking forward to it. This will be a fun experience to have in my life my life and I can not wait to begin.
