4. S a l t y • Taste buds at the sides of the front of your tongue pick up the salty tastes • The salty tastes improves the taste to food, Lubricates tissue and stimulates digestion

5. S o u r • Sour tastes are picked up on the sides of your mouth • Sour tastes also cleanses tissue and increases absorption of minerals

6. B I t t e r • Bitter tastes are picked up at the back of your tongue • Bitter tastes detoxifies and lightens your tissues • Examples are dark leafy greens, herbs and spices

Why do we need taste as a sense? • Sense of taste can be a life saver • Bitter tasting plants are often poisonous, so your sense of taste picks it up • Sense of taste also stops us from eating bad food that can make us sick • Taste adds to our enjoyment of food • Eating would be boring without taste buds • Taste allows us to distinguish between several thing
