  1. Unit 4.1Graphing Slope- Intercept Form Objective: Today we will learn how to graph the equation of a line that is written in slope intercept form.

  2. Refresher  We know that slope is the steepness of a line and that we find it by calculating the change in y over the change in x We also know the four types of slope and what their graphs look like.

  3. Key Concept Slope-Intercept Form- A linear equation that is in the form y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept y = mx + b Identify the slope and y – intercept of the following equations of lines. 1. y = 2x – 5 2. y = -1x + 10 2 3. y = -5x + 8

  4. Applying- Write An Equation Write the equation of the following lines given the slope and the y-intercept 1. m = 3 and b = - 2 4 2. The slope is -3 and the y- intercept is -8 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

  5. Key ConceptOn To The Big Show- Graphing!!!! Graphing in y = mx + b Steps to Success: Identify the ______________________and mark it on your y axis 2. Identify your slope (the m) and move by rise over run _______________________________ 3. Make at least three points on your graph

  6. Applying y = 5x - 2

  7. Applying y = 1x + 3 2

  8. Applying y = 5x

  9. Applying **3x + 2y = 6**

  10. Applying 2x + y = -6

  11. Special Cases y = -2 y = is ALWAYS going to be a horizontal line

  12. Special Cases x = 5 x = is ALWAYS going to be a vertical line

  13. One Last Thing Write an equation based on this graph. Step 1: Determine the y- intercept (b) Step 2: Follow the rise over run to a second point for the slope (m)
