  2. Introduction Religion and art and music are very finely intertwined. Religion, just like art and music, is a concept that joins people and unites them in their love for something. But the arts have played a gigantic part in shaping religion into what it is today. Can you walk into a church without seeing artistic representations of the Holy Family? Can you listen to a prayer service of any religion without hearing at least one song in praise of God?

  4. The Last Supper • Painted by the great artist,Leonardo da Vinci • Based on the Christian story of the Last Supper • Shows Jesus at his last meal with the 12 disciples

  5. Venus de Milo • Even the Romans used art to promote their religion. Many works of art from that time show religious figures or messages, like the famed Venus de Milo.

  6. Venus de Milo Based on Venus, Roman God of love • Arms have been lost through wear and tear brought by time • Now present in the Louvre, Paris

  7. Buddhist Art • Buddhism is another religion in which art is present. • Representations of the Buddha can be found everywhere in Asia, from Hong Kong to Indonesia!

  8. Music and Religion Focus: Roman Catholicism and Christianity

  9. Gospel Songs • Traditionally sang at Christian churches • For the praising of God • Wide variety

  10. Amazing Grace • One of the most famous Gospel songs • Lyrics : Amazing Grace How sweet the Sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost But now I’m found Was blind but now I see

  11. Christmas Songs • Festive • Unites people in this holiday of peace and love • Examples : Ode to Joy, O little town of Bethlehem, O come all ye faithful

  12. Conclusion • Music and religion are intertwined in deep ways that are so beautiful and mysterious. • Art and music can also play a large role in helping us express our love for our God. • Maybe that’s why music and art exist… they are just another outlet for the praise we want to shower onto the God who created us.
