  1. 21st Century Learning Grant (BEST)Advisory Meeting November 29, 2018

  2. Overall Grant Target • 734 students must have 30 hours to maintain funding. • 2017-2018 approximately 65% of students met the target. • 2018-2019 approximately 37.6% of students are at funding target. • A loss of approximately $1600.00 for every student below the target.

  3. Fall 2018 Programs Solvay Elementary School • 9 After School programs + BASCOL • 3Morning Programs • Currently have 169 students at 30 hours, including summer 2018 hours Solvay Middle School • 14 After School programs; added a homework help period before programming begins • Currently have 81students at 30 hours, including summer 2018 hours • Have added a GSA club and startinga ski club • Increased number of Field Trips Solvay High School • 4 consistent programs • Number of short programs, field trips etc. • Homework help is now offered Monday-Thursday • Currently have 26students at 30 hours, including summer 2018 hours.

Fall/Winter 2018 ProgramsBlock 2 • Block 2 began on Monday, 11/26/2018 • Grant registrations approximately 555 • Approximately 246 students have achieved 30 hours • Approximately 10 afterschool programs at SES, 4 morning programs. • Approximately 13 afterschool programs at SMS • High School has academic study tables and a new health class that can be used for recovery. Regents reviews are scheduling for January as well as academic support for the school musical

  5. 2018-2019 School Year Initiatives • Met with MACNY and looking at expanding career exploration options at all levels. • Look at options for credit recovery, including the potential of summer credit recovery courses at Solvay. • Morning programs will run continuously since transportation is not provided. • Growing opportunities with SUNY ESF. • Started a series of dialogues with Interfaith works around summer programs and family literacy for ELL’s • Provide opportunities for students in the Solvay Success Academy. • Increased Homework Help

  6. 2018-2019 (con’t) • Send some site coordinators to the state conference in May. • Additional field trip opportunities • Addition of clubs (Teach Solvay, Middle School GSA, Middle School Ski Club, career exploration) • Looking at additional options with BOCES for family outreach. • Scheduled Advisory Meeting dates March 21st, 2019 – 11:00 a.m. (tentative) June 6th, 2019 – Time TBA

  7. Challenges • While we are off to a much stronger start there are still a large percentage of students that are not participating in grant programming. • Finding enough staff particularly at SHS to provide programming. • Creating new partnerships • Meeting the target so as not to lose funding in 2019-2020. • Long term Sustainability
