This project investigates which citrus fruit possesses the most acidic properties, focusing on Key limes, Persian limes, Meyer lemons, Eureka lemons, Clementines, and grapefruit. The hypothesis is that Key limes, being small with concentrated juice, will show the highest acidity. Using pH strips, the acidity of the juice from each fruit is measured and compared across multiple trials. Results indicate that Key limes exhibit the highest acidity, confirming the hypothesis, while Clementines show the lowest, demonstrating the variability in citrus acidity.

Question Which citrus fruit has the most acidic properties?
Hypothesis I think the Key Lime will have the most acidic properties because it is the one of the smallest fruits, with the smallest amount of juice. The juice is concentrated and contains a lot of a property, such as acidic properties.
Material • 5 Key limes • 5 Persian limes • 5 Meyer Lemons • 5 Eureka lemons • 5 Clementine • 5 grapefruit • 5 Cups (to hold the fruit’s juice) • pH/acid strips
Procedures • Get each fruit (listed in materials) and extract it’s juice • Measure the pH/acidity for each fruits juice with the pH strips • Record data • Compare data to see which fruit has the highest pH reading • Repeat 4 times (five trials will be conducted)
Written Results The average pH reading for the key lime was 1. The Persian lime’s reading was about 2. Meyer lemons had an average pH reading of about 2, so did the Eureka lemon.
Conclusion The majority of the trials showed that my hypothesis was correct. The key lime had the highest average of 1. The fruit with the lowest average pH reading was the Clementine. Lower numbers on the pH scale such as 1 or 2 represent things with a high acidity.
