  2. I am enjoying having your children as students! Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

  3. Mrs. Orr • 12th year teaching, 5 years in Preschool, 1 year at Antioch and this is my 6th year at Indian Hills • I Grew up in Olathe and graduated from Olathe South High School • Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from K-State with certification in Middle School Math • Masters of Education at MidAmerica Nazarene University • Married and have an 8 year old son.

  4. Algebra Common Core Units: • Number Sense • Properties of Exponents • Linear Equations & Inequalities (single variable) • Data and Functions • Two-Variable Functions • Systems of Functions • Quadratics and Polynomials • Exponential Functions and Sequences • More Focus on Problem Solving

  5. Student Work (no point value) • Daily Homework—record kept in grade book (see code system) • Y (yes) – homework is completed on time • N (no) – homework not completed • I (incomplete) – homework partially completed (or proper work not shown) • L (late) – homework completed late • A (absent) – homework assigned or checked on a day absent

  6. Student Assessment (for grade) • WEEKLY QUIZZES– End of each week • 80% of grade • Students may retake each quiz once if they have completed the homework covering the material tested (Y or L) • Retakes must be before or after school (check my availability chart posted in the classroom and my web back pack) • QUARTER EXAMS— End of each quarter • 20% of grade • Review Packet given several weeks before exam

  7. How to help your student succeed in ALGEBRA • BE INVOLVED! Ask your student about… …nightly homework Mon-Thurs (usually only 10 problems) …how they are using the online textbook and resources (There is a link from my web back pack. Students receive ID and password in class. I recommend the online tutorial videos.) …how they’re preparing for Friday’s Weekly Quiz (Are they using the optional practice quiz/key? Are they going to attend the review session the morning of the quiz?) …Weekly Quiz scores on Mondays (and retake opportunity) …Review Packets and Extra Credit before each Quarter Exam …Progress Reports (school reports at end and mid-quarter and my email reports most weeks) • Please look through the “Algebra 1 Syllabus” distributed to students and posted on my Web Back Pack for additional details regarding curriculum and assessment procedures.
