Background • 1999 - AGILE Conference, Rome: Response to EC Green Paper on Public Sector Information: A Key Resource for Europe • 1998 - Association of Geographic Information Laboratories for Europe established • 2000 - AGILE Conference, Helsinki: agenda of research topics • 2000 - AGILE Council formally endorsed the Data Policy Working Group • 2002 - AGILE Conference, Palma: most recent meeting of the Working Group AGILE Data Policy Working Group

Objectives • To become a point of reference for geographic data policy research in Europe • To liase with, support, and influence the activities of national and European organisations with a stake in the development of data policies • To identify sources of funding for collaborative cross-national research. • To undertake joint research projects aimed at developing knowledge and influence policy in these domains. • To develop a repository of case-study material for cross-national comparison. • To develop a shared bibliography of reference material for research and teaching. ESF-NSF Workshop, Dec 2001, Spoleto, Italy AGILE 2002: session on data policy and infrastructures Activities • Contribution to two JRC/EUROGI studies • Formal AGILE response to the on-line consultation by DG INFSO, Jan 2002 • Research agenda on access to GI and particpatory approaches using GI • Develop a theme issue of an international journal AGILE Data Policy Working Group

Outlook • Act as virtual observatory on Data Policy for policy-oriented research and action • Seek resources to implement the research agenda • Contribute to scientific and policy debates • INSPIRE (Data Policy and Legal Issues WG) • AGILE 2003, Lyon: Session(s) on Data Policy AGILE Data Policy Working Group
