  2. What Comenius Projects have taken place so far? Comenius Project With France and Spain 2006 – 2008 • Trans national visits by staff and pupils to England, France and Spain • Pen pals • Teacher placement in Spain, France and England • Language support assistants. • Media coverage raising profile of school • Funding of MFL and ICT resources

  3. Why should we get involved in Comenius projects? • Currently 15,000 schools, 150,000 teachers and staff, 2 million pupils are involved in projects across Europe. • Comenius school partnerships benefit the whole school community and the rewards for pupils, teachers/staff, schools and parents are far-reaching.

What benefits you? • Develop communication skills; • Learn a new language or enhance language learning skills; • Provide insight into culture of those from other countries; • Increase motivation and enjoyment of school life; • Promotes personal development and a sense of achievement; • Opportunities for your child to visit partner school • Develop new and lasting friendships.

  5. What benefits schools? A new initiative that will form the basis for language teaching and learning across the Partnership. Achieved by: • Increased motivation of both pupils and staff; • Understanding practice in other European schools; • Finding joint solutions to shared problems; • Gaining better cultural understanding; and • Access to project funding, increasing school budget for benefit of all

  14. Children to be Hosted – March 23rd-27th • 2 boys from Germany • 2 girls from Germany • 2 boys from Turkey • 2 girls from Turkey and their female teacher • 2 boys from The Netherlands • 2 girls from the Netherlands

  15. Host Children • 9 families have expressed an interest in hosting – thank you! • I would like all of your children to be ‘host children’, i.e. even if they are not hosting children in their homes, they will still take part in the visits that week and look after our guests

Monday 23rd March 2009Comenius Visitors Arrive • If your visitor arrives before the end of school, then they are to be picked up when your child finishes school. • If they arrive after, they are to be picked up from the station. • This is the one night you will be expected to provide a meal and entertainment for the children you are hosting.

  17. Tuesday 24th March 2009Day in School • Bring children to school at normal time, making sure they have their PE kits! • Children to visit Leeds after school on the train with us – tea at McDonalds! To be picked up from school at 6pm.

  18. Wednesday 25th March 2009Trip to Eureka • Children need a packed lunch. • To be picked up at normal school time and brought back for 5pm for ‘Talent Night’, buffet and then disco. All help welcome! • Children to be picked up at 6.30pm

  19. Thursday 26th March 2009Trip to York • Children need a packed lunch again • After school, will take children to Xscape for bowling, laser quest etc. and for meal after. All welcome! • Would be helpful if they could be collected, but not essential.

  20. Friday 27th March 2009 • Wave our visitors off • Bring visitors to school if they leave later than the start of school
