Coffee AdInfo background One of the rare situations during the day where people physically meet (except for ordinary working meetings) is around the coffee machine when going for a stretch and to collect coffee. The coffee machine is today’s well in the middle of the village or yesterday’s fax machine where everyone met to get the latest information.

  4. Description of the case • Coffee AdInfo is an idea that springs from the need for efficient information distribution in a company • The idea is to use the display on a coffee machine (separate or built in) to deliver information with a common interest to the employees • Combines electronic information and social contact at a company • Also possible to use the display for local advertising. for example local ads for lunch restaurants directed towards the employed • Can eventually become a new way to finance the coffee machine and/or the coffee • The display is connected to the Internet and can be accessed by both the customer and the AdInfo organization

  5. e-Business and media The coffee machine will be a new media channel and deliver internal information and external advertizing and is hence an example of eBusiness in media

  6. Key contradictions The system is offering an efficient method to distribute information. At the same time the system is also changing the conditions for how information is distributed and when it is received. Some important contradictions are: • The need for information is also paralleled with a need for information silence • The coffee machine companies need to invest in media technology development and media are not core business for them. This has to be done before the pilot can be realized • Who will be the owner of the media part, the coffee machine company or the media company?

  10. Coffee machine vendor A strong candidate to be the coffee machine partner is Selecta who are the market leader in installed coffee machines at Swedish workplaces

  11. Coffee AdInfo The coffee machine with its communication display, called Coffee AdInfo is the central equipment for the information presentation. Here will the meeting between the communication receiver and the distributed content take place. The user interface must be intuitive and is probably a touch screen.

  12. Advertising agency The agency will create the ads that the advertisers want to distribute. The planning of the distribution of both internal information and commercial information will be donned at the agency

  13. System for distribution and navigation An information system that is distributing the content to the Coffee AdInfo is necessary. The ads are distributed from the agency on to the Coffee machines by help of this system

  14. Technology The information distribution system will probably be the Internet or by the 3G mobile net. The information is presented on a LCD screen on the coffee machine or close to it.

Content / advertising The content will be a mixture of internal information to the employees and information from local businesses, like lunch restaurants and other services directed towards the employees. It will primarily be advertisements with a profiled towards service rather than high commercial ones. This is due to the profile of the Coffee AdInfo as an information distribution system to help the employees with useful information during the working day.

  16. Advertising sales The local advertising markets are to a great extent controlled by local newspapers, subscribed or as free editions. There is a great possibility for a newspaper sales organisation with a local advertising approach also to sell the ads for the Coffee AdInfo. For example, the local newspaper ”Mitt i” has 31 different editions distributed in the Stockholm area. It is possible to advertise very local this way.

  17. Ideal Final Result • The pilot would ideally function as a new and efficient way to communicate information in a new setting
