  2. peril • To be in great danger. • Carlos visited the library during the day because going at night would put her in peril.

  3. terrain • The kind of land that is found in a place; for example, terrain might be rocky, hilly, or swampy. • Laticia enjoys hiking the rocky terrain in the state park.

  4. dismal • Something that is bleak and depressing. • The constant rain can make April a dismal month.

  5. esteem • To judge that something has value. • I esteem it an honor to be elected to student council.

  6. intently • To do something or to look at something with great concentration. • I find history to be very interesting so whenever there is a historical program on T.V. I listen intently.

  7. ordeal • A very difficult experience that is unpleasant to go through. • Living through the hurricane was an ordeal, but rebuilding our community was even more difficult.

  8. profusely • A lot of something. Something that is done profusely is done with great quantity. • Jose apologized profusely after insulting his good friend,

  9. asset • A resource, person, or object that is valuable to have. • My mother says her most valuable asset is her family.
