  1. Bio 6b Explain replication, transcription, and translation using models of DNA and ribonucleic acid (RNA); DNA mRNA Protein In nucleus On ribosome Translation Transcription

  2. TRANSCRIPTION: A matches with U and G matches with C, mRNA copies the DNA instructions for a protien and carries them out of the nucleus.http://www.johnkyrk.com/DNAtranscription.html Nucleus

  3. TRANSLATION: mRNA is decoded on a ribosome. tRNA’s bring in amino acids that match the code to create a protein. Use an amino acid chart to decode every three mRNA bases to see what amino acid the tRNA’s will carry in to build a protein.http://www.johnkyrk.com/DNAtranslation.html

  4. DNA mRNA Protein In nucleus On ribosome Translation Transcription TACACCGTC Now you try it: 1. Write this DNA code down the side of your marker board or paper. 1. Use TRANSCRIPTION to decode the strand into mRNA. 2. Model TRANSATION by listing the amino acids that these codons stand for. Use the amino acid chart on the next slide.

  5. T-A-C-A-C-C-G-T-C- AUGUGGCAG Methionine Peptide Bonds Tryptophan Glutamine DNA mRNA Amino Acids Transcription Translation

  6. Do you have the BIG PICTURE? An analogy can help us understand the complex process of transcription and translation. Use this story to help you place the strip provided in order on the flow map.

  7. Transcription Translation DNA mRNA Protein
