  2. Lived/Died: February 28, 1820 – February 25, 1914 Country: Bayswater, London.

  3. Had no education as a child • Was 1 of 6 children • Learned to Fence, Dance, Ride a horse, an other gentlemanly acts • While fencing a piece of metal flew in his eye, and cut his right eye. Leaving him blind. Which he kept from his father for the rest of his life. • Finally got education at Royals Academy, but left for being treated different. • When he was 16 he began painting. He was soon recognized as a talented artist and he received several commissions, including the production of a fresco for the House of Lords.

He was soon recognized as a talented artist and he received several commissions, including the production of a fresco for the House of Lords. • He had some cartoons accepted by Punch Magazine. • At first Tenniel was reluctant to take the post (of Punch) arguing that he was more concerned with “High Art” • Though he was blind in one eye, Tenniel had photographic memory, and never used models or photographs while drawing.

  5. The reason I chose John Tenniel was because of his drawings of Alice in Wonderland. I love Alice, an the White Rabbit, my favorite is Cheshire Cat. More of his art…
