Introduction • C-arms are imaging devices that use x-rays to detect the features of inner human body. • They are either fixed devices or mobile devices. • There are many features in c-arms that set it apart from typical x-ray machines. • The following slides will show us some of the features of modern c-arms.

  3. X-Ray Tube • The x-ray generator is the core features of c-arms. • The x-rays produced from it make it possible for doctors to see through your body. • Tubes can either be stationary or rotating type depending on the requirement.

  4. Image Intensifier • Basically it is a large glass lens and is the most expensive component of a c-arm. • They come in sizes of 9”or 12”. • It is used during complex procedures such as heart surgery.

  5. Output Device • The output device is typically a monitor which is either flat screen or CRT monitor. • Used c-arms older than 2005 most likely come with CRT monitors. • Modern c-arms come with either single screen or dual screen flat monitors.

  6. DSA and Other Packages • DSA packages in used c-arms have a few additional components. • Full-fledged c-arms have full vascular packages that can be used to check veins and arteries. • Road mapping feature is used to set roadmaps for surgeries.

  7. Printer • Another important output device in c-arms is the printer. • Thermal printers are the most popular variants of printers. • DICOM printers have better performance and image quality but are more expensive than thermal printers.
