  1. Photosynthesis & Respiration

  2. What is Photosynthesis? The process of photosynthesis is a chemical reaction. Photosynthesis is a process that occurs in plants to turn simple, inorganic molecules (H2O, CO2 ) into complex food molecules (C6H12O6) like glucose

  3. Write the Equation for the Chemical Reaction of Photosynthesis in WORDS.

  4. carbon dioxide reacts with water to form glucose and oxygen.

  5. What is the equation for the chemical reaction of photosynthesis?

  6. Describe Photosynthesisat least four (4) things!

  7. Describe Photosynthesis • The process of changing light energy to chemical energy • Energy stored as sugar • Occurs in plants and some algae • Plants need light energy, CO2, and H2O • Takes place in the chloroplasts, using chlorophyll, the green pigment in plants

  8. What happens during photosynthesis?

  9. What happens during photosynthesis? • Plants capture light energy and use that energy to make glucose • Sunlight provides the energy needed by chlorophyll to change molecules of carbon dioxide and water into glucose • Oxygen is also released in this reaction

  10. Why is this important to us?

  11. Why is this important to us? We cannot make our own food (glucose, energy), we get our food from plants. Plants are the first step in the food chain. Also, plants release OXYGEN for aerobic respiration

  12. Learn more about photosynthesis at: http://www.ftexploring.com/me/photosyn1.html

  13. What is Cellular Respiration?

  14. What is Cellular Respiration? The release of chemical energy (ATP) for use by cells

  15. What is Cellular Respiration? Process that breaks down glucose in the mitochondria to release energy in the form of ATP This process occurs in the mitochondria It happens in all living things

  16. Describe Cellular Respiration

  17. The breakdown of glucose molecules to release energy Takes place in all living things Takes place in the mitochondria Opposite (reverse) of photosynthesis Describe Cellular Respiration

  18. What is the chemical equation for cellular respiration?Use words and/or symbols

  19. What is the chemical equation for cellular respiration?
