Parts of the Leaves • Petiole - a thin stalk that connects the blade of the leaf to the plant's stem. • Blade - a thin, flat part of the leaf that extends off the end of the petiole. • Veins - contain vascular tissue and transport food, water, and minerals • Lobe - rounded or pointed section of a leaf • Margin – the border or edge of a leaf; there are many different types • Base – the bottom part of the leaf • Leaflet – one of the small leaves on a compound leaf
