  1. SciFi L1 Trigger (CTT/CPS/FPS) Commissioning Overview • Hardware prototype commissioning: • Done: DFEA tests with DFEC (1/2 crate) • today/next week: G-link to L2/L3 • August: serial copper link to MTM • Firmware prototype commissioning: • Today: fake 'CTOC' - L3 VRB communication test (using DFEA hardware) • next week: • real CTOC test (on prototype CTOC card); • fake 'CTOC' - L2 test stand communication test (using DFEA hardware)  August 1 milestone • as firmware becomes available: remainder of DFEx, CTxx, CPxx, FPxx tests • August: • FPTT - L1FPS MTM communication (Sateesh is almost ready with firmware), sharing Muon MTM crate • start tests of downloading under COMICS/EPICS • September: • DFEA - CTOC - CTQD - L2/L3 chain • switch to SciFi MTM crate • October: • DFES - CPSS - L2/L3 chain • DFEF - FPSS - L2/L3 chain • DFEA - CTOC - CTTT - L1CFT MTM chain • November: Examines • Production commissioning (7 crates): from Nov 2000 on

  2. Cal + Framework • Cal: working on • Analog Input card: prototype in 5k test • Quadrant-Region mezzanine card (new terms from L1 Cal) • readout card mods (with external vendor) • Framework: • installing final SCL cables + hub (aim for end of August) • testing readout FW - L3 into trigger mode VRB

  3. Update on theLevel 1 Muon TriggerHardware Status(as recalled by David Fein) Stefan Grünendahl for Ken Johns University of Arizona for the L1 Muon Group

  4. L1MU Hardware (Size of system: 11 crates (+ MRC crates from F/E readout group)) • MTCM (Crate Manager) 99% done • Commissioning of preproduction version ~95% complete • Production layout nearly complete • Production boards by 8/15 • MTCxx (Trigger Card) • ditto above + a few weeks • MTFB (Flavor Boards) • ditto above + a few weeks for MTM and MTC10 MTFB’s • Layout of preproduction MTC05 MTFB using ACEX technology in progress done • SLDB’s (Gbit/s Serial Links) • 3000 production boards (slowly) returning from assembler

  5. MCEN Hardware • MCCM (Crate Manager) • Final tests (communications using Hotlink, 1553, UART) of prototype in progress • MCEN (Centroid Finder Card) • Preproduction version assembled being tested • MCPB (Physics Boards) • Preproduction version layout in progress update  John Butler

  6. L1MU Infrastructure • Custom VME backplanes • L1MU production delivery in July • MCEN production ordered • are at Arizona • Power supplies • Prototype still needs to be assembled and tested: work starts today (D.F.) • Production version will immediately follow (available late September?) • Platform services • Racks and power installed (still true) • Cabling • Cable and connectors @ Fermilab • Cable maps for all cables exist • Production at NIU in progress • Will also try to take advantage of summer manpower • cable tester setup is at FNAL

  7. Progress to Date • MTM triggers sent to the TF using trigger logic with two PDT’s • Simple rates measured • L1MU MTM crate readout to the MRC • Data analyzed by eye sensible • redone with final L3 protocol; data written to file; L3 unpacking tested: success • Present problems • Handling of L1 Rejects (FPGA fixed but not tested):fixed

  8. Near Term Goals • early July • Stable operation of the L1MU MTM crate: done • mid-August • Stable operation of one (sparse) L1MU trigger crate and the L1MU MTM crate • Still using preproduction cards • mid-September • Add L1CFT MTM crate to the above • Power supply uncertain • early October • Begin commissioning production L1MU crates and cards everything still on track

  9. Near Term Asides • Examine • In progress (Pete Johnson is starting to work on this, using Dave Hedin's framework) • Fall commissioning people @ D0 • Rob McCroskey (hardware) • Pete Johnson (software) • Prototype power supply assembly is lagging starting today • Cable installation plan • Need have jumper cables ($) for the end region

  10. L1MU Production Commissioning Plan • 01 September 00 • MTCM’s (crate managers) • MTM MTFB’s (MTM flavor boards) • SLDB’s (serial links) • Infrastructure • 01-15 October 00 • MTCxx’s (trigger cards) • MTC10 MTFB’s (10 flavor boards) • MTC05 MTFB’s (05 flavor boards) • 01 December 00 • MCEN (centroid finders) • MCPB (centroid logic boards) • MCCM (crate managers)

  11. Conclusions Everything is going according to plan...
