Using data from existing files
Using data from existing files

All of these file types can be opened in Word:

  • .txt (text file: no formatting)

  • .rtf (Rich Text Format: text can retail formatting eg Bold/bullets etc. Can be imported into many different packages.)

Widows and orphans 1
Widows and orphans 1

  • If you start a paragraph of text on one page but there is not enough room on the page to get the last line typed in, the single line of text which appears at the top of the page ON THE NEXT PAGE is called a widow.

Widows and orphans 2
Widows and orphans 2

  • Similarly, sometimes you start a paragraph of text at the bottom of a page but you can only type in one line before the rest of the text goes on to the next page. This line on its own at the bottom of the page is called an orphan.
