Surajya Sarvangin Vikas Prakalp • A Social Organization formed on 01-May-2001 • Primary Objective of the organization is “All Round Personality Development of an Individual” • Surajya Operates in economically backward areas in and around Yerwada, Pune • The similar projects are being conducted in other states like Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat (with associated organizations)

  4. Locations • Today, Surajya operates in 6 Economically backward areas in and around Yerwada • Ekta Nagar • Jayaprakash Nagar • Darwade Mala • Sanjay Park • Ambedkar Nagar • Prem Nagar

  5. Activities • Surajya is engaged in a variety of activities • Education • Sanskar Kendra (Cultural Education). • Mahila Bachatgat. (Self Help Groups for Women) • Self-Employment • Awareness program for Adolescent Girls • Youth Guidance • Health related programs

Education [Abhyasika] • Surajya is actively conducting Educational Programs for Children • Highlight importance of Education and Help the children develop an interest in academics • Tuition Classes for School Children [Class 1 -10], after School Hours • Persuasive efforts to ensure that children attend school regularly • Personalized, special attention to students, who show the growth potential • Importance of Moral values and Good Behavior

Sanskar Kendra [Cultural Education] • Surajya is actively conducting Cultural Education Programs for Children • One Hour Classes thrice a week [Monday, Wednesday and Friday] • Activities like “Surya Namaskara” to stress upon importance of physical fitness • Recitation of Shlokas, Prayers and Patriotic Songs • Cultural and Moral Education through Fables and Parables • Library to kindle interest in reading • Increase healthy competitive spirit through Games

Mahila Bachat Ghat • Another Initiative from Surajya is “Mahila Bachat Ghat” [Self Help Group for women] • Encourage the habit of saving money among women • Promote financial independence among women, boost their morale and self esteem • 28 such small groups, consisting of 580 women in operation today • Offer free legal advice through qualified legal professionals • Tailoring Classes, Health and Child care Education, Health Check up, AIDS Awareness Camps, Energy Saving Programs - conducted on a regular basis • Monthly meetings, periodic business tours, and visits to temples (to promote interaction and harmony)

Programs for Adolescent Girls • Another Initiative from Surajya is “Programs for Adolescent Girls” • Avoid the risk of choosing a wrong path (due to lack of employment opportunities due to illiteracy) • Educate them on physical and emotional well being, physical and psychological changes that occur during adolescence, through qualified physicians • Create an awareness about the legal and right age for marriage – educate them on perils of Child Marriage • Offer free legal advice through qualified legal professionals • Weekly visits by a qualified doctor, free health check ups • Cooking, Rangoli, Ceramics, Self Defense classes held periodically

Youth Guidance Center • Another Initiative from Surajya is “Youth Guidance Center” • Create health awareness and discourage consumption of alcohol, Ghutka (Tobacco) and smoking • Guide the youth about their responsibilities and their role towards the progress of their “vasati” (Habitat) • Weekly visits by a qualified physician • Free medication and health checkup • Dhol, Lezim Sangha to promote cultural awareness • Deaddiction/Rehabilitation Center • AIDS Awareness Camp

Future Plans • Extend activities to at least two more “Vasti’s” • Hire more volunteers to cater to the growing needs (particularly those who reside in the vastis) • Train the volunteers on activities, organizing skills and social skills • Extend the activities to engage more involvement from children in ongoing activities • Provide Extended Medical Coverage • Hire more teachers for Tuition Classes • Acquire educational aids to make teaching more effective • Provide at least basic class room amenities (like benches, a better black board, books for library etc) • Acquire tailoring machines and accessories • Computer Education (Looking for Corporate Sponsorships here)

  19. How YOU can make a difference!! • Make a financial contribution • Sponsor the expenses of a vasti • Sponsor an activity (like a health check up program, a cultural event, AIDS awareness program etc) • Sponsor/Donate artefacts (like black boards, books, accessories etc) • Volunteer for organizing the activities
