  1. January 25 On January 25, 1924, the first Winter Olympics opened in Chamonix, France. For a long time the Winter and Summer Olympics were held in the same year. It was not until 1994 that the winter and Summer Olympics were held in different years. Some of the sports in the Winter Olympics was skiing, ice skating, and hockey.
