Creation of The Lion King. By Gabby Bye. The Idea. The idea for The Lion King was based off of several things: Hamlet -a Shakespearean play Simba is a young prince. His father is killed by his uncle. His uncle convinces Simba that Simba killed his father. He runs away out of shame.

  2. The Idea The idea for The Lion King was based off of several things: • Hamlet-a Shakespearean play Simba is a young prince. His father is killed by his uncle. His uncle convinces Simba that Simba killed his father. He runs away out of shame. • Kimba the WhiteLion-an old anime Many of the scenes in The Lion King are identical to those in Kimba. Kimba is about a lion who’s dad and mom dies. He goes back to his homeland. However, there is an evil lion and his helpers trying to ruin Kimba’s plan.

  3. Original Concepts There are many scrapped concepts for The Lion King: • The very first plot was to be a war with baboons against lions. Rafiki was to be a cheetah, and Scar a baboon. • The original name was to be King of the Jungle • Mufasa was to sing a song called To Be King • The Circle of Life was supposed to have dialogue • Scar was supposed to attempt to seduce Nala. When she refused, he was going to exile her. • Hakuna Matata was going to be Warthog Rhapsody, originally. • Rafiki was going to be an old wise monk. • Timon and Pumbaa were going to be Simba’s childhood friends. • The song The Morning Report that was to be sung by Zazu was scrapped. • There was supposed to be a scene of a concentration camp, but of course that got scrapped

Some Character Deletes • Baasho-A hyena that was scrapped at a very early stage • Kobi and Prita-Two vultures that were scrapped early • Naanda-Sarabi’s sister that was scrapped at an early stage for lack of usefulness • Mheetu-Nala’s tag-along brother who was scrapped later in the movie’s development • Bhati-Abat-eared fox that was one of Nala and Simba’s childhood friends • Iggy-Aniguana that was going to be one of Nala and Simba’s childhood friends • Tesma-Ameerkat that wasone of Nala and Simba’s childhood friends

  5. Character Changes • Nadra-Nala’s original name • Harold-Pumbaa’s original name • Kwashi-Rafiki’s original name • Simba-Originally to be a white lion (2nd slide) • Scar-Was going to be a rogue lion
