Sustainable University Initiative President Mason presented the Sustainable University Initiative to the Faculty Senate on Earth Day, April 22, 2008 “Sustainability must and will become a central priority of all aspects of our university enterprise - our operations, our academic mission, and our responsibilities to the greater society.”

  4. Sustainable University Initiative Outlined four broad areas for immediate action... 1. Act on State of Iowa Challenges 2. Form an Organizational Structure 3. Make Operational Practices More Sustainable 4. Make Sustainability an Integral Part of the Academic Mission

  5. Sustainable University Initiative Additional Commitments: Joined the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (aashe.org) Include sustainability as an underlying principal in drafting UI’s next strategic plan
