  1. Allied Victory Key Events Test Task Dates are incredibly important in history, especially when it comes to the GCSE exams, but it takes practise to remember them. Learn these key events and dates for a test. • Timeline of Key World War 2 Events • 1939 • 1 September - Hitler invades Poland. • 1940 • Germany successfully invades Belgium, Holland and France. • Churchill becomes Prime Minister of Britain. • British Expeditionary Force evacuated from Dunkirk. • British victory in Battle of Britain. • 1941 • Hitler begins Operation Barbarossa - the invasion of Russia. • Japan attacks Pearl Harbour, and the US enters the war. • 1942 • British and American bombing of Germany begins. • 1943 • German forces are finally defeated at stalingrad in February • 1944 • 4th June –D Day: The Allied invasion of France • Paris is liberated in August. • 1945 • Russians reach Berlin: Hitler commits suicide and Germany surrenders on 7 May. • After atomic bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrenders on 14 August.
