What is Coaching? • Coaching definition - a process that helps people tap into their inner purpose and passion and connect that with the outer goals and tasks to bring about extraordinary and sustainable results • What isn’t coaching? Giving advise, pushing your personal agenda, being judgmental, arrogant, pushy, controlling, intrusive egocentric, inflexible, stubborn, pushy or insulting

Core Coaching Competencies • *Setting the foundation – ethical guidelines and professional standards • *Co-creating the relationship – trust, connection coaching presence • *Communicating Effectively – active listening, powerful questioning • *Facilitating learning and results – awareness, actions, planning and goal setting, managing progress

  5. Coaching Skills and Processes • Acknowledging – a deep level of mirroring back or paraphrasing what was just said • Validating – let a person know that they have the right to feel the way they do; eliminates judgment; saying what’s right or wrong or agreeing in any way • Accountability - asking permission, celebrating, coaching blocks, empowering questions, goal setting, listening, summarizing, visioning
