  1. IN and OUT of the Relation between Skin and Sleep Did you know that the quality of sleep and how long you sleep can have an effect on your skin? We do spend a lot and take a lot of effort to make sure that our skin looks good. One of the simplest acts that can restore your skin to its glory is getting quality sleep. This is not a random fact discovered while browsing the internet. There are research papers proving that there is a direct correlation between skin and sleep. Along with your skincare routine, adding good sleep would be a fantastic idea. In case you are not sure about how sleep affects your skin, here are the five ways in which your appearance suffers due to lack of sleep: Hair Fall: Sleep deprivation causes loss of hair. Hair loss and sleep are directly related. If you see that there is a sudden hair loss in your routine, checking your sleep could be the best place to start. Skin Dullness: Loss of sleep leads to an increase in cortisol levels. Loss in cortisol can cause inflammation which breaks down the protein in the skin. This protein helps in keeping the skin radiant and soft. A tired body also lacks blood supply and a lack of oxygen in the blood. This leads to pigmentation in the skin and makes it look blotchy. Dry Skin: Sleeping leads your skin to perspire more which means all the toxins and extra moisture in your body are flushed out. Therefore, sleep is a natural moisturizer that helps in smoothing out the wrinkles in the skin. Not sleeping properly can affect the moisture levels and decrease the PH levels in your body causing an imbalance leaving your skin drier than before.

  2. Dark Circles: This is one of the best symptoms to identify sleep deprivation. Lack of sleep makes the blood vessels so swell causing the dark circles. The water content in the eyes also decreases leading to puffy eyes too. Sometimes it can cause inflammation too. Aging: When a lack of sleep applies stress to the body, it results in collagen in the skin. Collagen is going to help in retaining the elasticity of the skin. Whenever collagen breaks down, skin becomes loose and shows signs of aging resulting in wrinkles that are seen. Tips to get Good Skin while Sleeping A Good Night's Sleep Sleep through the night not only for good skin but for the overall wellness of your body. Get your body to sleep with a good mattress and bed to ease into a deep slumber. You can look for foam mattresses online and buy the right mattress depending on your body type to help you sleep faster and better. Wash your Face before Sleeping

  3. Now that we know how well the skin repairs itself while sleeping, a good way to initiate the process is by washing your face. It increases the blood flow, helps rebuild the collagen and relaxes your face after each day. Cleansing is very important for overall skin wellness. Use a gentle cleanser that refreshes your skin and avoid scrubbing at night. Moisturizer After washing your face, be sure to apply a moisturizer to restore the lost moisture. Drinking water also helps in restoring the water balance and helps in keeping the skin nourished. There is no need to splurge into an expensive moisturizer, A simple cream or even a little oil would be a good idea to use. Sleeping Position Always sleep on your back and as much as possible avoid sleeping on your stomach as it compresses your face for a long time which leads to wrinkles. Sleeping on your back is the ideal position to get good sleep and improve your sleeping habits. Cut the Sun When you sleep avoid getting exposed to direct sunlight. Although this is not something that happens often, getting directly exposed to the sun while waking up or at times during nights too. This can damage your skin and affects your appearance. A night of healthy sleep is not rocket science. All you need is a good sleep routine. It might be difficult initially. But, by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, you can train your body to sleep at ease. Apart from the routine, a good mattress, pillow, and sheets are some of the other factors you need to consider to sleep well suggest experts from Wakefit. There are also mattresses that are designed specifically for addressing specific health issues such as back pain or sciatic pain while sleeping. There are so many options of beds and mattresses to choose from today that sleeping has never been so cozy. Sleep is not only an integral part of your lifestyle, but it also affects your overall body health in many ways. So, sleep well and keep many of the health problems at bay.
