  1. Jane Goodall Jane Goodall is known for her research on chimpanzees and her efforts to save them from extinction.

  2. Early Life J Jane Goodall was born April 3,1934in London, England. She was raised and educated there,and went to Uplands Private School. J

  3. Oxford a At At age 18 Jane left school and became a secretary at Oxford University. In her spare time she worked at a London based documentary film company to raise money for a trip to Africa.

  4. New Opportunities Friends invited Jane to Africa, the place she wanted most to go and there she was introduced to Luis Leakey.

  5. Tanzania On July16, 1960 Jane arrived at Lake Tanganyika in Gombe Stream Reserve in Tanzania with only her mother and an African cook to accompany her.

  6. Chimps At first the chimps resisted Goodall but she devised a plan to gain the Chimp’s trust.

  7. New Friends After one year Jane could get within 30 feet of the chimps. After two years the chimps no longer feared her.

  8. Discoveries Jane Goodall discovered many things about chimps. For instance, chimps have complex social systems. Chimps also eat meat, and use tools. These were once thought to be solely human traits but now we know that chimps possess them too.

  9. Marriage In 1962 Hugo van Lawic, a wild life photographer was sent to Africa to film Ms. Goodall. During this project they fell in love and got married.

  10. Fame On December 22, 1965 the movie that Hugo was filming, Ms.Goodall and Wild Chimps, was put on television. Soon Jane was famous.

  11. A Baby In 1967 Jane’s son, Hugo, was born.

  12. The Jane Goodall Institute In 1977 The Jane Goodall Institute was established. This organization provides many programs that protect and research chimps while informing the public about them.

  13. Today Today, Jane travels the world about 300 days a year to teach children in schools about chimps and the dangers they face.

  14. About ME! My full name is Cynthia Dalia Cukiernik. I’m thirteen years old. I’ve lived in Pfafftown North Carolina my whole life. Some things I enjoy are painting, riding roller coasters, dancing in the rain and bumming out. I love ice cream, little kids, candy,animals, music, drama, and my family. Now you know a little bit about me.
