  13. Dimensions Dimensionality is shared across Essbase and Planning applications

  14. Reporting Solution

  15. Reporting Solution Overview • Essbase ASO Application • 14 Dimensions • Up to 6,000 view users • Approximately 150 Financial Reports • FDMEE • Valid combination mapping eBS to Essbase • Mapping of 340K CC to Responsibility • Facilitate drill back to G/L • DRM • Financial Dimension Hierarchies • eBS Mapping Source FDMEE DRM Oracle eBS The entire EPM suite including Planning is installed on a single virtualized Exalytics instance

  16. Chart of Account and Dimensionality The custom dimensions represented in the Essbase & Planning outlines represent segments in the Oracle eBS code block • 61-06150000-0101-610003-091901-0000 • Division • Area • Account • Department • Division/Location • Functional Division • Organization Manages at the Valid Code Combination (zero level intersections in Essbase) • Responsibility dimension member assigned to each valid code combination • Mapping maintained in DRM with data mapped to a Responsibility on load via FDMEE • FDMEE enable drill back to Oracle journal details 350,000 code combinations & 69,000,000 aggregate cells present a performance challenge

  17. Reporting Solution Wrap Up A phased roll-out of the reporting solution will be complete in Fall 2014 Key Results and Facts • Full application aggregation ranging 2 to 6 minutes • Majority of reports even large complex reports run in under 1 minute • Users will have extensive analytic capability with user driven drill back into the general ledger • Centralized repository including detailed actuals, budget & forecast data Exalytics has enabled a high performance scalable EPM environment

  18. Budgeting & Forecasting Solution

  19. Budgeting/Forecasting Solution Overview Weekly Monthly • Planning BSO Monthly Application • 14 Dimensions • Approximately 1,500 planning users • Planning BSO Weekly Application • 16 Dimensions • By Employee Planning capabilities • FDMEE • Valid combination mapping eBS to Planning • Facilitate drill back to G/L • DRM • Financial Dimension Hierarchies • eBS Mapping Source FDMEE DRM Oracle eBS PeopleSoft The entire EPM suite including Planning is installed on a single virtualized Exalytics instance

  20. Planning Utilizing “Valid” Flag Client requires valid zero level intersections to populate web form based on upper level selection • Cross dimension exception limit security as an option • Users not expected to know or select individual dimensions • Plan by line item not intersection • Explored single dimension ASO Plan Type • Created “Valid for Plan” flag in Data Type dimension • Valid combinations loaded with “1” • Forms driven by Page dimension selection • Valid flag in hidden column • All zero level descendants of all 5 relevant code combination dimensions • Rows populated by suppression On current Exalytics environment 90% of selection load in 1 to 5 seconds

  21. Payroll Planning & Reporting Planners have the option to plan headcount by individual or plan by total headcount Planning by Headcount • Plan Full Time Equivalents & Average Weekly Wage by week • Positive or negative amounts (turnover/vacancy planning) Total Payroll • Total of by individual & Full Time Equivalents planning populate the Work Center totals • Ability to report data at the individual & Full Time Equivalent level for both Actuals & Plan data • Dynamic Payroll % to sales calculation built into the application Planning by Individual • Initiate Roster • Populates the roster for the given code combination • Populates the default values fro merit increase %, Merit increase start week, these default vary by division • After form populates, defaults can be adjusted • Add new employees, transfers, either positive or negative (for turnover/vacancy planning)

  22. Payroll Planning & Reporting Payroll planning and reporting is distributed between an ASO application and a BSO plan type Payroll Planning • Data input to Planning BSO by user base • Latest actuals used for Base Salary / Base Rate amounts • Default merit increase rates, effective dates maintained by planning administrators • Defaults can be varied by corporate division Payroll Reporting • ASO reporting cube updated nightly from relational table & BSO planning app • Reports available for Cost Center totals • Reports available for Cost Center Employee detail • Includes data feeds from PeopleSoft & Journal Entries from the G/L

  23. Benefits & Challenges The benefits of implementing Hyperion Planning on Exalytics potentially address multiple complex requirement Potential Benefits Challenges • Faster Load Times • Both data and metadata • ASO Planning • XWrite limitations • Versioning limitations • Dynamic Comp Sales Calculation • Other dynamic calculations • Simplifies report building • Ability to accommodate large dimensions • Large drill downs execute faster • Chart of Accounts • No defined “Account” or “Entity” dimension in the source chart, mixed across other dimensions • 350K code combinations • Sparse data • “Valid Combination” issues • 300K Employees • Used for Actuals • Lots of maintenance due to seasonal turnover • 5,000 users • Responsibility – mapped dimension • Not built into existing hierarchies • Frequent changes cause remapping issues

  24. EPM on Exalytics Highlights

  25. Total Solution Monthly Reporting (BSO) Planning (ASO) Weekly Reporting (ASO) Monthly Weekly Includes Weekly Sales & Payroll, both Plan & Actual, with employee detail Source Data & Metadata

  26. EPM 11.1.2.3 on Exalytics Highlights Below are some of the key findings that were discovered during Essbase and Planning development ESSBASE • SSOPTIMIZEDGRIDPROCESSING – Speeds up retrievals • Hour glass on a stick dimension ordering – still applies • Initially more dramatic improvement in ASO • 11.1.2.3 “unlimited” data and index caches • .500 release delivered Hybrid Aggregation PLANNING • .500 Patch – better performance than base release • Speeds up forms • Enhanced calculation manager features • Integrates Essbase & Planning configuration • Write calc scripts in calculation manager, save to EAS • JVM is more stable • Better garbage collection • Better memory management Biggest gains in performance came after the .500 patch release

  27. Conclusion Compelling argument for considering Exalytics platform for EPM • Exalytics performance and capacity may reduce number of physical servers required • 11.1.2.3.50X for Planning offers major scalability improvements especially on larger forms • 1,000+ line forms possible (if you need it) • Extremely large outline supported • Essbase performance (especially ASO) very good and improving • New and promising features • Hybrid Aggregation! • Stability was “shaky” on 11.1.2.3.0 but seems to be resolved on .500 • Consider utilizing Oracle or a certified Oracle partner for configuring Exalytics environment • Not necessarily a blank check
