Baptism is Essential to Salvation • “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” - Mark 16:16 (NKJV) • “Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” - Acts 2:38 (NKJV) • “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” - Acts 22:16 (NKJV)

The Need for Baptism Has Been Established • Even when the need for baptism has been established for people to respond today, many times questions still linger… • Is baptism meant to be administered with immersion, pouring, or sprinkling? • This lesson is designed for those here today who might have these questions…

The Greek Words for “Baptize" and “Baptism" • The words are "baptizo" and "baptisma"... • Note that the words "baptize" and "baptism" are not actually translations of the Greek words, but are transliterations • Transliteration means “the conversion of a text from one script to another” • To prove the authentic meaning, we need to look to the authorities concerning the Greek language

I wish that all Christians would restore the primitive practice.” • Father Brenner (Catholic): “For thirteen hundred years was baptism an immersion of the person under water.”

Man may alter specific Bible teaching… • But Jesus condemned the religious leaders of His day for committing the same type of error. - Mark 7:1-13 • Laying aside the commandments of God, they were keeping traditions of men… • By keeping certain traditions, they were not keeping the commandments of God!

Even if one is sincere… • We are right with God, only when we do the Master's will! - Matthew 7:21-23 • Love for Jesus will be revealed by keeping His commandments - John 14:15; 15:10,14 • “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” - 1 John 5:3 (NKJV)

What Have We Learned? • That the Greek words (baptize & baptism) mean "immersion" • “Sprinkling" or "pouring" is inconsistent with the terminology that the apostle Paul used in the Bible to describe baptism • There is no question… • Immersion is the form of baptism that is taught in the Bible !
