  2. Choosing your topic • You are to choose a • Person • Inanimate object • With which you have a “love/hate” relationship. • Think of the reasons you: • love • hate • love-to-hate • hate-to-love • them/it.

  3. Writing your Sonnet • You need 14 lines. • You are to use the sonnet rhyme-scheme • ABAB CDCD EFEF GG • You are to write 10 syllables per line.

  4. Writing your Sonnet • Your poem needs to show development of ideas. My suggestion is: • Stanza 1 (ABAB) = why you love them/it • Stanza 2 (CDCD) = why you hate them/it • Stanza 3 (EFEF) = why you love-to-hate or hate-to-love them/it • Couplet (GG) = conclusion Could be reversed

  5. How it will be marked I am looking for: • Mechanics: • Rhyme scheme • 10 syllables per line • Spelling, grammar, punctuation • Content: • Creativity – figures of speech employed • Development of ideas
