  2. The Underground Railroad • Canada was the only safe place because when slaves reach Canada they aren’t slaves any more. (They become free). • The Underground Railroad was not a railroad nor was it underground. • The Underground Railroad was a path for runaway slaves to get to safety.

  3. The Underground Railroad • The Underground Railroad, a vast network of people who helped fugitive slaves escape to the North and to Canada, was not run by any single organization or person. • The South lost 100,000 slaves between 1810 and 1850. Slave traders

  4. The Underground Railroad Harriet Tubman was one of the slaves. She heard that a slave trader bought her son, so she refused to let them have him. She ran away on the Underground Railroad to make it to safety
