ARTEPAL2/SITUATION • Evaluation of projectsin all the supply chain (plantations, extraction, pharma) and in different regions • Evaluation of extraction processes • Establishing connections between different partners • Support in GMPs at different levels in connection with WHO/pre-qualification. Nairobi03/2006

ARTEPAL3/ FINDINGS • Numerous projects restarting basic studies available in the literature • Numerous plantation projects without available extraction unit. • Numerous projects without knowledge of the commercial possibilities and quality requirements • Numerous questions asked to WHO/RBM/MMSS and others Nairobi03/2006

  5. ARTEPAL3/FINDINGS • Since the meeting in Arusha, risks of inadaptation of demand and supply are increasing. • Quantities • Quality • Recommandation of WHO for only ACTs may deeply change the demand Nairobi03/2006

ARTEPAL4/PROPOSAL S • WHO/RBM/MMSS with MSH/RPM Plus intend to produce a guide to API production covering : • Cultivation issues on artemisia annua: • Seeds: sourcing, quantities needed • Planting, growing conditions, climate… • Areas of cultivation and surfaces • Major issues, agricultural and financial • Average biomass and artemisini content Nairobi03/2006
