  2. Why a Project? • FLL is not just about building robots • Exploration of the Challenge Project is critical to the overall FLL experience. • Through the research, your team will learn more about the Challenge theme and better understand the work of professionals in that field. • The team will encounter challenges similar to those faced by scientists and engineers. • Exposed to these fields of science and related professionals will open your team’s eyes to future career choices

  3. Where to Start • FIRST web site: http://www.usfirst.org/community/fll/ select “Power Puzzle Challenge” • Project Resources • How to Guide • Energy Audit • The Project

  4. Parts of the Project • Find a problem related to the year’s theme • Research the problem • Develop solutions for the problem • Select a solution and how to present it. • Develop a 5 minute presentation for the tournament • Share the team’s finding with parents and relatives, a community organization, or your school.

  5. 2007 Power Puzzle Project • This year’s Power Puzzle challenge is about understanding the elements of energy use in a world that uses more and more energy every day. As our world grows and changes, so do our energy needs. The Power Puzzle missions get FLL teams to consider some of the energy choices we have available and how those choices affect the world. With the Power Puzzle project, your team has the opportunity to look at many types of energy choices, analyze the possibilities, and work to improve energy use.

  6. SELECT A BUILDING in your community and evaluate the energy use. Perform an energy audit. • Through research and speaking to experts, develop a SOLUTION to reduce energy consumption or move toward alternative energy use for the building. • SHARE the changes for your building with the community
