  3. Background on Ban Comic Sans • Designed to look like comic book lettering • Typefaces convey meaning • Black tie event in a clown costume says Ban Comic Sans • Mr. Connare rarely uses it himself • Disapproving stickers to be slapped on inappropriate uses of the font wherever they are found

Ban Comic Sans • Ban Comic Sans was brought about in the fall of 1999: • Holly Sliger (Co-Founder) • “It was like hell for me” • In the midst of the project, she met her husband, Dave Combs (Co-Founder) • While studying for a master’s degree, Mr. Connare received a call from Mr. Combs • The Combs’ went global • In February 2004, Mr. Connare asked the Combs’ to stop using his picture

  5. Outcome • Mr. Connare speaks at Internet conferences about Comic Sans, written in Comic Sans font • “I Love/I hate Comic Sans” picture book • Dalton Magg, typography studio in London
