Work done (2) • Observational epidemiology using US data • Influence of legislation on prescribing of psychoactive drugs • Influence of internal factors (facility and staff characteristics) • Psychoactive meds, warfarin, antidepressants • RCT in nursing homes on pharmaceutical care provision (Fleetwood study) • Qualitative work on adherence to medication in nursing home setting • MRSA in nursing homes • Prevalence study and RCT

  4. Work on-going • Role of organisational culture on prescribing of psychoactive medication in nursing homes • N. Ireland and New Zealand • Antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes (ESAC project) • 21 countries • Pain management in community-dwelling and nursing home residents with dementia • Interventions to improve polypharmacy in older people (Cochrane review)

  5. Work being planned • End of life care for patients with dementia • Focus on prescribing of medications and how to withdraw • Complemented by a Cochrane review on withdrawal vs continuation of cholinesterase inhibitors and memantine in patients with dementia • Further work on infection control in nursing homes
