    1. UKRAINE

    2. Important facts about the country in a nutshell Country in Eastern Europe bordering the black Sea, between Poland, Slovakia, Hungary in the west, Romania and Moldova in the south-west, Russia in the east and north-east and Belarus in the north with the population about 46 million people, consisting of 24 regions, 1 autonomous republic (Crimea) and two municipalities with regional status – Kyiv and Sebastopol. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv with the population – 2.7 million inhabitants. The state language of Ukraine is Ukrainian but Russian (in the main part of big cities and in the area of eastern and south Ukraine) Polish, Slovak, Hungarian (western part) and Romanian (south-western part) are also widely spoken.

    4. Introduction Let me introduce myself. My name is Elena Russol and I am a local coordinator in Ukraine. I have joined our organization in August 2010. I have a great wish to do my best in promoting the programs in Ukraine and I am sure that the participation of our doctors in the seminars certainly contributes much to the development and improvement of Ukrainian public health system.

    5. Some Important Developments Promotion of the seminars at several medical universities helps to attract a lot of young, highly qualified specialists fluent in English. During 2011 there were some doctors who covered a part of their travel expenses (for the moment it is 4 doctors) and it is expected some more by the end of this year. The support of pharmacological company representatives (they have a wide network all around Ukraine) allows increasing the number of applications for the seminars.

    6. Detailed information on the regions For the current period the increase in the number of the applications for the seminars is notable in such regions of Ukraine as: Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolayev, Vinnitsa. The experience of some doctors who have already attended the seminars and their wish to spread the information about the seminars helps to attract many physicians in such cities as Kharkov, Lugansk, Ternopil.

    7. Comparative Data If we try to compare the number of participants from different regions of Ukraine in 2009, 2010 and a part of 2011 in per cents we can make some conclusions: 1. It increases the number of applications from such cities as: Lugansk, Ternopil. 2. It brought more applicants from Vinnitsa (it was less than half per cent and now it is 2) 3. The number of applications from such cities as: Odessa, Chernigov is insufficient – it should be improved.

    9. Comparative Data 2 If we try to compare the data of equal seminars for the last three years, we find out that the number of applicants practically remains the same. For some specializations only 3-5 physicians apply and for other ones the number of applications is more than 15.

    11. Statistical facts: The number of physicians applying for the seminars (figures for the last two years): In 2009 the applications from 221 physicians In 2010 the applications from 259 physicians In 2011 the applications from 148 physicians (submitted for 17 seminars and for the rest the deadline is 31.05.11)

    12. Prospects for the future Increase of the number of participants from all Ukrainian regions (especially from those where for the present moment we do not have a lot of applications). Try to attract more doctors who will be ready to cover their travel expenses.
