  1. Psalm 84 A study in Lordship

  2. How lovely… • v1: Lovely: Hb-beloved, attractive & desirable • What is the dwelling place of God? • Jn 12:26 – the place were God is in our lives, where His will is fulfilled in us. • Lordship requires that we make wherever God is calling us, in that season of our life, His dwelling place, choosing to make it lovely, beloved and desirable.

  3. Feeling secure… • v1b: Recognize that there is a “host” fighting for us • The dwelling places of God are safe. • Safety does not mean free from trials. • True safety for the believer means free from Satan’s influence, being in fellowship with the light not darkness.

  4. Yearning & lordship • v2: Yearning – to come to the end of yourself because of a consuming desire • Courts – a place where the King rules (Lordship) • Jm 1:8 - doublemindedness • My heart and flesh need to be so lined up with what God is doing in my life that I sing for joy, no matter what

  5. Being vulnerable… • v3: A pregnant swallow/sparrow needs a safe place to nest • She chooses the altar (the cross) • A heart that’s afraid of the cross will not have discernment; won’t know to embrace a difficulty or rebuke it; won’t discern what’s from God for our good, or from the enemy for our destruction

  6. Lack of Lordship… • v3: The sons of Korah accuse God of making bad choices – they were living in a state of misappraisal • Num 16: Korah was a grandson of Levi. Levites were priests. • Sons of Aaron were high priests. • Sons of Korah were doorkeepers

  7. Authentic Lordship… • v 10 paraphrased: I would rather have one day doing your will (true lordship) than 1,000 days of getting my own way. • We can defile ourselves and our place of calling by our unwillingness to make where God is calling us a beloved dwelling place. Lack of Lordship blinds us to what God is trying to accomplish in our lives.

  8. Final thoughts • The Lord will never demand our allegiance to Him or His Lordship. The choice is ours. We can bend the knee now; or we can bend it later. • “…that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow…and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Phil 2:10a,11

  9. A Prayer of Submission • Lord Jesus, • I acknowledge you as Lord over every aspect of my life. I am willing to receive what you so generously offer; I am willing to forego what your hand does not supply; to endure what you permit that I may become all you have created me to be. Better is one day in your courts than 1,000 elsewhere.
