Mapping Empires • Task: create a map that illustrates the impact and influence of one of the Mesoamerican civilizations that we are studying • Map should include visuals or symbols that indicate the unique or unusual features of the civilization • i.e. Inca map will show dominant physical features as well as agriculture, Aztec map will show the expansion of the empire and the flow of the tribute that was directed towards the capital, Tenochtitlan, and Mayan maps will indicate at least 8 major sites, trade routes and the nature of goods exchanged
Why are we doing this? • To observe the geographic foundations of Empires and the changes that occurred • To appreciate the chronology of issues and events that occur in a civilization • To understand the evolution and development of society •
What to do: • Choose a civilization • Research topics specific to the civilization you selected • You can use your textbook, an atlas, or an iPad to conduct research • Create a chart to organize your information • Try one of the nifty apps on the ipad to record your info! (popplet; notes, etc.) or use pen/paper • Transfer information onto your map • Make it look nice! • Have a peer evaluate your map
