  2. Causes Sinusitis is caused by a blockage in the sinus cavities of the nose. Sinus infections can occur after a cold or it could be a symptom of a larger problem like deviated septum.

  3. Symptoms • Symptoms for Sinus Infections are: • Nasal Discharge (Yellow or foul smelling) • Pressure pain around the nose or eyes • Headache • Congestion • Fever/ Cough • Cold that seems to never go away • Nasal Obstruction

  4. Prevention • Avoid contact with other people who are struck with a cold. • Cigars, pipes and smoke should be avoided to prevent yourself from getting a Sinus Infection. • Avoid dry air. Use humidifiers • at home.

  5. Treatment Self care treatments include drinking lots of water to avoid being dehydrated and to get rid of the mucus, using nasal saline, inhale steam 2-4 times a day, and avoiding extreme temperatures and changing of weather. Prescription medications can be given to patients suffering from Sinus Infections from a doctor. Allergy shots (immunotherapy) can be given to patients to help prevent the disease from reoccurring. Most fungal sinus infections require surgery in which the doctor will repair the nasal polyps.

  6. Cures At this time there are no cures or permanent treatments for the sinus infection. There are, however, treatments and vaccines for the influenza, which can lead to a sinus infection.
