Purpose • Purpose of leadership evaluation: Identify the leadership abilities (strengths and weaknesses) of OTS Trainees and provide them the information and tools necessary to become an effective Air Force leader. • The debrief is where this happens • This is where the most learning takes place

  6. Group Debrief Content • Focus • Leadership – not solution or team/leader performance • M-T-A • 10-40-50

  7. Individual Debrief • Focus • Trainee-centered • Critical reflection, analysis, and integration • Performance, not personality • Focus on EFFECT the leader had on team’s ability to accomplish the mission/task

Format • Approx 10 minutes • No minimum or maximum time • Stay on target…this is a counseling session • 2-3 main points maximum • Don’t laundry-list the LCE • Primarily follow group debrief structure & content • Emphasis to particular examples to help the individual • Target the leader’s behavior • Overview, transitions, summary

Feedback • Address specific strengths & weaknesses • Focus on the effects • Involve the trainee • Place the burden on them • Ask what they think they need to do • Get them to explain importance/relevance • Ensure they understand the concepts • Support with operational examples Tell me, and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me, and I understand. --Confucius

Guidance • Specific techniques/examples to improve • “Work on your coordination.” • “When coordinating, get your team members to repeat back to you what they believe the plan is to ensure everyone is on the same page.” • LCE • Justification for each rating • Guidance for anything not rated “O” • Give trainee a clean USABLE copy
