  1. Proposal for Transition of Current Portal Communities and Workspaces Terry Grady November 2, 2010

  2. Phase-Out of EPA’s Portal and Collaboration Tools • Portal and Oracle Collaboration Tools will be available until 9/31/2012. • Gradual Transition Process to minimize effort and expense and user impact • Options for Customers to Meet the Schedule

  3. Customers’ Options for Migrating from Oracle Portal • Abandon Community Application Entirely • Redevelop Application on Another Platform (including Websphere Portal) • Upgrade Portal Application to OFM 11g and Re-host Communities as Free-Standing applications

  4. Overview of the Upgrade/Re-Host Option • Install OFM 11g and Upgrade Most Communities • CWNS - Geospatial - ESC/EERIC • READ - OCFO - SEMS • EMP-COOP - EIS - WebCMS • Retire Some Communities (ITS-ESE, Employee Page, Work@Home, etc.) • Maintain Current 10g Portal and OCS until 09/31/2012 for OCS Tightly Integrated Applications (FLS, OW Sustainable Communities and Stimulus Steering Committee) • Decouple Upgraded Communities During FY 11 and FY12

  5. Advantages of Upgrade/Re-Hosting Option • Provides Portal application owners with an exit strategy now. • Provides customer a stand-alone application option over which they have more control. • Provides an immediate lower-cost option by minimizing re-development and re-work and using standardized components. • Could allow decommissioning the existing Portal site ahead of schedule, saving support costs.

  6. Workspace Transition • Stand-alone OCS workspaces will be supported through CY 2012. • Approximately 2,100 workspaces in use • OFM 11g upgrade will not affect OCS workspace function. Only applications that are integrated with OCS workspaces would be affected. • Coordinating with IBM on migrating workspaces to QuickR sites.

  7. Timeline • 10/2010 – Communicate transition plan; 11g development environment available • 11/2010 – Publish 11g best practices guide • 12/2010 --OFM 11g to NCC staging as part of scheduled OAS (Weblogic Server) upgrade. • 3/2011 -- Upgrade EPA Portal Framework to OFM 11g • 3/2011 -- Complete community upgrades and re-host them as free-standing applications • 12/31/2011 -- OAS/Portal 10g support ends. • 9/30/2012 -- EPA Portal Site out of service • 12/31/2012 -- OCS support ends.
