  3. AIMS • To give every student in Year 10 the chance to find out what being at work is like • To add relevance to your curriculum • NOT necessarily a career choice

  4. The Process • OCTOBER/NOVEMBER • Parent’s Information evening • Assembly for students • PSHE lessons introduce site and WEX process to students • All students given individual login code to keep secure

  5. Student Guide to Veryan site • The School website will contain a section for Year 10 Work Experience • You can view or download letters, forms and PowerPoints • The Student Guide PowerPoint will be used in PSHE to introduce the site

  6. Veryan WebView is an Internet based system that allows you to view information about work experience jobs. It’s a very easy system to use and these instructions will help you to get familiar with it. • Getting started • You’ll need a computer with an Internet connection and Internet browser software such as ‘Microsoft Internet Explorer’ • This will allow you to search and use the system from any computer so you can access choices from home • Open the browser and go to http://suffolk.learnaboutwork.org/

  7. The Choices Form • StudentChoices Form to parents By Monday 26th November • Form completed by pupil and signed by parents • Return form to Tutor by Wednesday 5th December

  8. The Choices Form • College students: you should select a placement that is connected with your course e.g. if you are on YA Hairdressing then opt for a salon – you may already have a placement in mind.

  9. CHOICES FORM: KEY POINTS • Choose 3 placements and write the correct information in the boxes • Only apply for a school or nursery place if you have a genuine interest in childcare • Do not apply for a place in a school you have attended as a pupil • Make sure you can travel to the placements you choose • Please ask your parents to complete the bottom of the form

OWN CHOICE • Green Own Choice form to employer to complete • Own Choices form returned to Mr Clayton as soon as possible • Student fills in details on Veryan website • School checks EBP database for suitability of workplace in terms of health and safety • If not known application to EBP WEX Unit for inspection

  11. DECEMBER-JANUARY • Week of 17th January details of first round of allocations • “You can’t always get what you want !” • Second round of choices for those not placed • Mr Ewan or Mr Clayton meet with students who have not got a placement

  12. JANUARY-FEBRUARY Parental consent form with space for any medical details relevant to being at work • Deadline for return of Consent form to your Form tutor – Monday 31st January • You write application letter and CV in PSHE classes • Follow up with telephone call to arrangeinterview during Easter holidays

  13. Easter Holiday • Interview during the holiday • 2nd – 12th April • You must take Triplicate Form for employer to sign • Parent signs Triplicate Form

  14. APRIL • Triplicate Form signed by employer, parent and student to Form Tutor by Monday 22nd April • No Form No Work Experience !

  15. AT LAST • Monday 13th May – Friday 24th May • YOU GO TO WORK

  16. DURING • A member of staff will phone and most students will be visited at their placement • Please notify employer and school if you are going to be absent • Contact Mr Clayton or Mr Ewan at school if there are any problems or worries

  17. FINALLY • Monday 3rd June • Return to school • PSHE lessons used for Evaluation • Employer Report forms collected • Work Experience reports feed into your Progress File. • Employer Report to you and copy stored in school.
