  1. Galatians 5: 22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

  2. Galatians 5 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is… Against such things there is no law.

  3. The Fruit of the Spirit: Patience and Self-control1 Timothy 1:12-17 and 2 Timothy 1:5-7 The joke is… Never ask God to give you patience Because there is only one way to get it… Lots of practice

  4. Patience God given spiritual calm in the face of provocation or misfortune and without complaint or irritation Self-control The power, status or rule in and over one’s self, which comes from God

  5. Patience and self-control They are connected in their calm and mature way of dealing with choices and options – good, bad or difficult

  6. Some of us are by nature more patient and self-controlled Others of us struggle to find those qualities within ourselves If we for looking for those qualities, the bible says, we find them through Christ

  7. 1 Timothy1 (on patience) 12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.

  8. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.

  9. In hind site, Paul recognizes what a horrible person he was These are Paul’s thoughts: If God can have patience with Paul, then God truly has unlimited patience

  10. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

  11. Paul says, God had and still has patience with him -- the worst of sinners He will have patience with you God will pour out grace, patience and everything else you need abundantly

  12. When it comes to self-control Paul says the same thing Self-control is a bit of a misnomer Because we need help to have self-control Babies and children have no self-control and no patience

  13. 2 Timothy 1 (on self-control) 5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

  14. The fruit of the spirit are gifts from God But they are also fruit we desire because we have seen them Timothy is NOW who he is, partly because of his role models

  15. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

  16. The references to self-control in the New Testament deal mostly with… Sexuality It also apply to other things like… Money Rumors Food Addiction

  17. God is patient with us He asks us to be patient with each other God has perfect self-control He asks that we have self-control Part of God’s gift to us is the power to overcome

  18. Who we are is partly our nature “your grandmother Lois” “your mother Eunice” Partly our nurture “I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God” Partly God’s gifts – “his unlimited patience” “a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline”

  19. Remember those who nurtured you Fan that flame Ask for it Pray for it Expect it Celebrate it
