  2. Characteristics of an Enduring Understanding • Involve the big ideas that give meaning and importance to facts • Can transfer to other topics, fields, and life • Are usually not obvious or concrete • Justify the use of teaching a skill • Are deliberately framed as generalizations

Examples of Enduring Understandings • Authors write with different purposes in mind. • Readers develop a deeper understanding through reflection of text. • Describe the structures that humans have to serve different functions in growth and survival. • Developing number sense and number relationship.
