  6. 2012 Addendum – Electricity Markets and Variable Generation Integration • Recommendations: • Based upon the studies and data we have reviewed, the VGS recommends that WECC, in coordination with its’ stakeholders, support the development of Energy Imbalance Market structures, and/or other tools and structures to effectively and efficiently integrate variable generation in the Western Interconnection.

  7. 2012 Addendum – Electricity Markets and Variable Generation Integration • Recommendations (continued): • The VGS recommends that WECC serve as a forum for discussion and development of market methods and products that promote more efficient access to and use of transmission to facilitate the integration of Variable Generation.

  8. 2012 Addendum – Electricity Markets and Variable Generation Integration • Chair request for JGC: • Consider the recommendations and present them to the Board

  9. Maximum VG Penetration • VGS has had a hard time scoping the question in ways that are both meaningful and cost-effective • The answers are different for different systems in interconnection • Chair recommendation: • Remove this from the VGS goals and request individual entities, specifically BA’s and subregional planning groups, perform their own studies.

  10. Standard Interconnection Requirements • NERC IVGTF report to be approved: • “Special Reliability Assessment: Interconnection Requirements for Variable Generation” • Proposed updates to standards • Chair recommendation: • Wait for NERC approval and comment on projects as timeframes allow
