  4. WHAT IS ANSI? • ANSI is U.S. member for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) • ANSI is the chief coordinating body of U.S. Standards System • ANSI uses voluntary consensus standards, it does not write the standards

  5. WHAT IS ANSI? • ANSI is made up of 1,000 U.S. associations • It was established in 1918 • It represents a benchmark of excellence in standardization and conformity assessment systems

  6. MISSION OF ANSI • To enhance both the global competitiveness of U.S. business and the U.S. quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems, and safeguarding their integrity.

An important step in realizing a true networked or “smart” home, was achieved recently by the completion of a Connected Home Appliance Standard, pending approval as an American National Standard – New York News Release, March 22, 2002
