  3. Why APEC?APEC is an incubator of ideas for regional economic integration. These ideas should be based at the extensive body of reference material for policy makers in the form of best practices, non-binding principles and guidelines as well as related statistics.The key word is RESPONSIBILITY Example: APEC study used a Computable General Equilibrium model to estimate the effects of a Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific in 2009.   4. Why IOT?1. Are the regional IOT estimates possible technically? YES! There is related international experience (Asian Input-Output Tables of the Institute of Developing Economies, BRICS IOT (IDE-JETRO), World Input-Output Database (WIOD) project, Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP), the OECD International Input-Output database)2. Is there duplication?NO! APEC IOT should be very practically oriented and related to APEC’s specific problems. What is the expected outcome of the conference?Send a ‘message’ to the APEC Senior Officials about our interest to IOT compilation in the form of a brief summary of the Conference;It is envisaged that this outcome will be communicated to the Informal APEC Senior Officials meeting (December 2011, Saint Petersburg, Russia) which will consider APEC priorities for 2012.
