S.M.A.R.T. Goals

• A = Attainable
• R = Realistic
• T = Timely
Specific
• Specific goals are stated with great detail.
• Specific Goals Always Include:
• How you will measure your progress.
• How you plan to attain your goal.
• Why this goal is realistic for you.
• What time limit will you give yourself to achieve this goal.
Measurable
• Ways to measure your progress:
• Checklists
• Control Sheets
• Journaling
• Set Smaller Goals
Attainable
• How do you plan to achieve your goal?
• Create a plan on how you plan to achieve your goal.
• State your plan in detail.
• Make sure that your plan is realistic for you.
Realistic
• Why is this goal realistic for you?
• State why this goal is a reality for you to achieve.
• Remember…
• Trying to reach a goal about something you may have never attempted, increases your risk of failure.
• Instead, try to set smaller goals to help you reach that ultimate goal if it is something you’ve never tried before.
Timely
• What time limit are you going to give yourself to achieve your goal by?
• Determine which length of time (short-, medium- or long-term) you want to give yourself to achieve your goal.
• Give yourself a specific date to achieve your goal by and STICK TO IT!!!
• Providing yourself with a time limit will keep you motivated to stay on track.
