  • Explain the difference between short-, medium-, and long-term goals.
  • Understand the different components of setting S.M.A.R.T goals.

  • Short-Term:
    • Goals that can be achieved in a few days or weeks.
  • Medium-Term:
    • Goals that take about a few weeks up to a year to achieve.
  • Long-Term:
    • Goals that take longer than one year to achieve.

  • S = Specific
  • M = Measurable
  • A = Attainable
  • R = Realistic
  • T = Timely

  • Specific goals are stated with great detail.
  • Specific Goals Always Include:
    • How you will measure your progress.
    • How you plan to attain your goal.
    • Why this goal is realistic for you.
    • What time limit will you give yourself to achieve this goal.

    • Ways to measure your progress:
      • Checklists
      • Control Sheets
      • Journaling
      • Set Smaller Goals

  • How do you plan to achieve your goal?
    • Create a plan on how you plan to achieve your goal.
    • State your plan in detail.
    • Make sure that your plan is realistic for you.

  • Why is this goal realistic for you?
    • State why this goal is a reality for you to achieve.
  • Remember…
    • Trying to reach a goal about something you may have never attempted, increases your risk of failure.
    • Instead, try to set smaller goals to help you reach that ultimate goal if it is something you’ve never tried before.

  • What time limit are you going to give yourself to achieve your goal by?
    • Determine which length of time (short-, medium- or long-term) you want to give yourself to achieve your goal.
    • Give yourself a specific date to achieve your goal by and STICK TO IT!!!
    • Providing yourself with a time limit will keep you motivated to stay on track.

  • Write a medium-term, S.M.A.R.T. goal for this course use the rubric provided
  • State your goal specifically (see slide #5 of this power point for how to write your goal specifically).
  • You may choose to have your teacher look at your goal before you write your final copy for feedback.
  • Write your final goal on the paper provided and submit for grading.
