  3. Stanford CSET Teacher Training • Open to all member schools • 10-14 June 2019 in HK • 5-Day Intensive Institute • 1-year virtual coaching • Aim: learn and apply ideas from the research base for learning, instruction, curriculum, and assessment • Fee to be confirmed

  5. AFS in the world • Non-profit, volunteer-driven organization • 100-year history, from World War I • “American Field Service” • 60 countries and over 40,000 volunteers • Our mission: “To provide intercultural learning to create a more just and peaceful world”

  6. AFS in Hong Kong • 36 years of service in Hong Kong • Impacted 3500+ students, families, and teachers • Relationships with over 110 secondary schools • Dedicated staff of 9 people • Over 150 passionate volunteers

  7. AFS one-year program • Student lives abroad for full school-year • Lives with volunteer host family • Attends local school • Immerses in local culture • Each year with AFS… • ~100 HK students go abroad • ~50 foreign students come to HK

Developing global competence • Empower youth development in global competence • A critical skill of increasing importance: • HK senior secondary students need to strengthen international perspective – Chinese University study in 2016 • “Put simply, schools must prepare students to be globally competent.” – Asia Society research report • PISA to include global competence measurement in 2018

  10. Year Program 15 to 18.8 years old (9 – 10 months program) Asia HKD $95,400 Other Countries: HKD $113,400 includes: • Return flight tickets • Full Board • Tuition fee • Orientation Camps & Local Support • Medical Insurance

  12. 《Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust’s Community Project Grant》 • 50 local students to participate on AFS’ overseas year exchange program from 2017 to 2020 • Each student may be awarded up to HKD $113,400 • For youth from low-income families and disadvantaged groups
