The Danish National Bibliography and holdings from all danish libraries Netpunkt.dk: the professional access to Danbib – Search and requests. Access to other bases: Libris, Bibsys, WorldCat Bibliotek.dk : the end user access to Danbib Search and requests

What is WorldCat? • US based international database – driven by OCLC • All materials • Over 112.000.000 records http://www.oclc.org/worldcat/newgrow.htm • Over 1.300.000.000 holdings • Holdings from more than 9000 libraries • Now over 50% non-english materials We have worked with the WorldCat/ILL-module for almost 20 years.

Why interesting for danish libraries? • International visibility of the Danish cultural heritage • Ensure end-users to be guided to library.dk for titles in Danish libraries • Invite Danish libraries to be suppliers of international ILL • Copy catalouging (change from LC and BL) • Reuse facilities developed by OCLC (eg. Collection analysis) • Participate in the international ILL-arena A national solution for all Danish libraries

Export of records • All records with holdings on Danish Libraries – and the National Bibliography • Holdings for Danish Ressource Sharing (=supplying) libraries (8) • If no holdings at Danish Ressource Sharing Libraries link to library.dk for further information. Technical experience from export of records from The National Library of Education since 2005.

  13. Library Registry • Reuse of Danish Library Registry • Export in new XML-format expected – automatic updates

  14. Mapping DK5 to Dewey • Mapning of DK5 – Danish (mainly public libraries classification system) classification system to ”3-digit-dewey” Make way for transforming other classification-systems • Ensure that Danish titles works in subject based facilities in WorldCat – e.g. Collection Analysis

  15. Copy cataloguing Until last year: Danbib included records from Library of Congress, British Library and Deutsche National Bibliographie (expensive!). Test: 8 libraries (public and research) ran tests during summer 08 and compared ”Danbib today” with WorldCat as a source for copy-cataloguing. Result: • Minimized own cataloguing percentage from 17% to 6% • Music (played and printed) – almost full score • 3. Great advantage with foreign languages

  16. Meeting the userHow do we present danish libraries? Professional users in Denmark (Netpunkt): WorldCat through Netpunkt – search & requests Professional users outside Denmark: WorldCat through FirstSearch/ILL modul (transscription) End-users - Dk and outside WorldCat.org for searching – directed to library.dk, link to library/or for more information (”Make a copy and contact your local library”).

Project 2008 into Project 09 = Implementing Report on project 2008 delivered december 08 including • Results and suggestions for 5 sub-projects • Alongside an agreement and contract was made between OCLC and DBC december 08 on export and copycataloguing 3. Several libraries (all types) aree already on copy-cataloguing via DanBIB-licens

  18. Project 2009 • Application delayed due to new administrative rules • Expected june 09 to finish up and implement the results from 2008 • Establish full export of records (incl corrections and removals) • Start the first libraries as suppliers • Mapning and start to explore the facilities in WorldCat Results: • Efficient copycataloguing for all types of libraries/descriptions • Description of best practise and networking in all other topics in the agreement/project.
